No doubt you have heard the expression “like painting the Forth Bridge.” It’s used to describe a never-ending job, which by the time you have got to the end of it, you need to start again, and was coined from the painting of the Forth Bridge in Scotland which took 10 years to complete.
Over the last few years, the Knutsford Decorator has been working at a beautiful period property in Knutsford. It has been a lengthy, ongoing project which we have done in various stages over the years. Half of the house is Georgian, and the “newer” half is early Victorian.
We originally started work on the property in October 2015 when we were asked by the family to paint one of the son’s bedrooms, and since then we have revisited the property on several occasions to paint various other rooms as well as working on the outside of the property. We have even been back recently to paint the same son’s bedroom, 6 years after it was originally done!
It’s been a privilege to work in such a stunning home that comes with so many quirky features and so much character. With this comes its challenges. Working on a house of this age requires a lot of patience. Sometimes different techniques need to be used as well as a sympathetic approach.
Over the years the Knutsford Decorator has stripped and relined the massive dining room ceiling. We have painted the kitchen units and as you can see from the photographs, we have hung a lot of wallpaper in many of the rooms. All of the Cole & Sons wallpaper we used in the house was sourced locally at the Arthur Lee interiors shop, a family run business in Knutsford. Our clients chose wallpaper that perfectly complimented the age and style of the property while giving it a slightly more modern twist.
Paddy and Jess are a lovely couple to work for and we always enjoy our time there.
